IV is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Toto, released in March 1982 by Columbia Records. The album marks a turning point in the band’s career, as they faced a decline in popularity and a lawsuit from their former management. The band decided to focus on their musical strengths and craft an album that would showcase their diverse musical styles, ranging from pop rock to hard rock, and their impressive technical skills. The album features some of the band’s most memorable songs, such as “Rosanna”, a tribute to actress Rosanna Arquette and a fusion of rock, jazz, and Latin rhythms; “Africa”, a soft rock anthem inspired by the band’s fascination with the continent; and “I Won’t Hold You Back”, a power ballad with lush orchestration and a guitar solo by Steve Lukather. The album also includes other notable tracks, such as “Make Believe”, “Good for You”, “It’s a Feeling”, and “Waiting for Your Love”. The album was a huge commercial and critical success, earning Toto three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, Producer of the Year, and Record of the Year for “Rosanna”. The album also reached the top ten in several countries, including the US, UK, Australia, and Japan. Toto IV is widely regarded as one of the best albums of the 1980s and one of the finest examples of the AOR genre.
