Caroline – Caroline 2

Caroline 2, released in May 2025, is the second studio album by the British eight-piece collective Caroline, and it’s a bold leap forward from their 2022 debut. Where their first album was a patchwork of ideas and experiments, Caroline 2 is a declaration of unity and intent — a record that feels sculpted from shared intuition and emotional cohesion.

The band spent 18 months crafting the album across various UK locations, eventually recording at Big Jelly Studios in Ramsgate. The result is a richly textured blend of post-rock, folk, ambient, and experimental pop, with moments that feel both meticulously composed and spontaneously alive. Tracks like “Total Euphoria” and “Two Riders Down” showcase their dynamic range — from explosive crescendos to hushed, cinematic stillness. The standout single “Tell Me I Never Knew That,” featuring Caroline Polachek, is a swirling centerpiece of warped vocals and layered instrumentation that captures the album’s emotional core.

One of the most striking moments is “Coldplay Cover,” recorded with the band split into two rooms playing different songs — yet the result is hauntingly unified, a testament to their deep musical connection. Critics have praised the album’s refusal to resolve, its embrace of contradiction, and its ability to fracture and reassemble genre traditions into something wholly original.
