Cream – Goodbye

$22.00 Inc. GST

Goodbye is Cream’s parting gesture, released in early 1969 and stitched together from both live recordings and final studio sessions, which gives it a strangely split personality: half farewell document, half last‑minute attempt at cohesion. The live material — especially the extended “I’m So Glad” and “Politician” — shows the trio at their most combustible, stretching riffs into long, improvisatory exchanges where Jack Bruce’s bass and Ginger Baker’s drumming push Eric Clapton into sharper, more aggressive phrasing. The studio tracks feel more controlled and melancholy, with “Badge” standing out as the album’s polished centrepiece, its clipped guitar figure and drifting bridge hinting at the more reflective direction Clapton would soon take. The record doesn’t resolve the band’s internal tensions so much as expose them: virtuosity pulling one way, pop craft another, exhaustion underneath it all. As a farewell, it’s uneven but revealing — a snapshot of a great band dissolving in real time.
