Deftones – Ohms

Deftones’ Ohms is an immersive sonic experience that bridges the visceral aggression of alternative metal with dreamy atmospheric layers. Released in 2020 as their ninth studio album, it marks the return of producer Terry Date, who helped sculpt the band’s early sound. This album doesn’t just revisit familiar terrain—it refines it, blending Stephen Carpenter’s deep, nine-string guitar grooves with Frank Delgado’s haunting soundscapes and Chino Moreno’s ethereal vocals that swing between whispers and screams.

From the explosive opening track Genesis, the record pulses with raw energy and emotional depth. Each song feels like a chapter in a shifting narrative, moving from brutal intensity to hypnotic calm. Tracks such as Urantia, The Spell of Mathematics, and the title track Ohms demonstrate the band’s maturity—balancing chaos and control while lyrically exploring themes of transformation, loss, and renewal.

Critics embraced Ohms for its coherence and the band’s artistic growth, with the album earning high praise and even Grammy nominations. It’s both a throwback and a progression—rich in texture, emotionally resonant, and unmistakably Deftones.
