Mac Demarco – Guitar (Clear Orange Vinyl)

Mac DeMarco’s Guitar is a warm, understated collection that distils his trademark style down to its essentials. Largely created on his own and centred around instrumental performances, the album trades catchy vocal hooks for gentle melodies, relaxed grooves, and a quietly immersive atmosphere. The songs unfold with an unhurried pace, allowing DeMarco’s distinctive guitar tone to take centre stage as it drifts through sketches that feel reflective, spontaneous, and deeply personal. There is a casual charm to the recording, but beneath its laid‑back surface lies a careful sense of composition and mood, with each piece contributing to the album’s cohesive flow. Rather than aiming for dramatic statements, Guitar finds beauty in simplicity, inviting listeners into a contemplative space shaped by subtle textures and melodic ease. Intimate, unpretentious, and surprisingly absorbing, it highlights DeMarco’s ability to create engaging music from the most modest of ingredients.
