Mental As Anything – Get Wet VG+/VG+

Get Wet captures Mental As Anything at their most buoyant and sharply melodic, blending pub‑rock looseness with a quirky pop sensibility that already feels unmistakably their own. The album moves with an easy, good‑humoured swing: jangling guitars, bright keys and lightly off‑kilter hooks frame songs that balance deadpan wit with genuine warmth. What makes it so appealing is the band’s unforced chemistry—each track feels casually tossed off yet lands with precision, the melodies sticky, the performances relaxed but never sloppy. There’s a distinctly Australian flavour in the storytelling, a mix of dry humour and everyday observation that gives the record its character without weighing it down. Drawing from new wave pop and local pub‑circuit energy, the album becomes a snapshot of a band discovering how to turn charm into craft. It’s breezy, clever and quietly confident, the sound of a group hitting their stride without losing their grin.
