Nonetheless is the fifteenth studio album by English synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys, released on April 26, 2024, through x2 and Parlophone. Produced by James Ford, the album was mostly recorded at his East London studio.
The album was composed during the COVID-19 lockdowns, with Chris Lowe and Neil Tennant exchanging ideas remotely. Tennant learned to program with GarageBand, leading to a more spontaneous songwriting process. The title Nonetheless reflects their perseverance: “Nonetheless! We’ve carried on and done this.”.
Musically, the album blends dance tracks and ballads, with themes celebrating human emotions. Ford encouraged the duo to simplify their arrangements, replacing soft-synths with analog synthesizers and incorporating orchestral elements to enhance the emotional depth.
