Loaded E.P. by Primal Scream is a pivotal release that marked a turning point for the band, steering them towards the burgeoning acid house movement while maintaining their rock roots. Released in 1990, the EP features the iconic track “Loaded”, which was originally a remix of “I’m Losing More Than I’ll Ever Have” from their self-titled second album. The remix, crafted by Andrew Weatherall, transformed the song into a genre-blending masterpiece, incorporating elements of indie rock, psychedelia, and dance music.
The EP also includes a live version of “Ramblin’ Rose”, a cover of the MC5 classic, showcasing the band’s raw energy and love for garage rock. The success of “Loaded” helped lay the foundation for their groundbreaking album Screamadelica, which would go on to define the early ’90s indie-dance crossover scene. The track’s famous spoken-word intro, sampled from the film The Wild Angels, encapsulates the hedonistic spirit of the era: “We wanna be free to do what we wanna do. And we wanna get loaded. And we wanna have a good time.”.
