Redman, Mehldau, McBride, Blade – RoundAgain

RoundAgain is a reunion album for the Joshua Redman Quartet, bringing together the saxophone mastery of Redman with the virtuosic piano of Brad Mehldau, the deep bass lines of Christian McBride, and the nuanced drumming of Brian Blade. Released in 2020, it marked their first recording together since 1994’s MoodSwing.

The album features seven original compositions, with three by Redman, two by Mehldau, and one each from McBride and Blade. This collaborative spirit shines through in the music, creating a dynamic interplay between the musicians. Each track offers something unique, from the driving energy of “Moe Honk” to the introspective mood of “Father.” Despite the range of styles, the album maintains a cohesive feel, a testament to the long-standing musical connection between these four jazz masters.
