White Light from the Mouth of Infinity is the seventh studio album by the American experimental rock band Swans. It was released in June 1991 by the record label Young God1 The album is a blend of post-punk, psychedelic rock, and orchestral arrangements, creating a sound that is both intense and atmospheric. Swans leader Michael Gira described White Light from the Mouth of Infinity as an exploration of “the transcendental, the mystical and the ecstatic.”
The album features 12 tracks, including the single “Love Will Save You”, which was also featured on the soundtrack of the film The Doom Generation. The songs deal with themes such as love, pain, death, and redemption. Swans collaborated with various musicians and producers, such as J. G. Thirlwell, Nicky Skopelitis, Anton Fier, and Hahn Rowe.
White Light from the Mouth of Infinity received critical acclaim upon its release and is considered by many critics to be one of Swans’ best albums. It was ranked at number 205 on Pitchfork’s list of the top 200 albums of the 1990s.3 White Light from the Mouth of Infinity is a masterpiece of experimental rock and a testament to Swans’ artistic vision.
