Wednesday – Bleeds

$52.95 Inc. GST

“Bleeds” is Wednesday’s sixth studio album, a raw and genre-blurring exploration of southern gothic storytelling, released on September 19, 2025 via Dead Oceans.

Produced by Alex Farrar at Drop of Sun studio in Asheville, North Carolina, Bleeds continues Wednesday’s evolution from noisy indie rock into a visceral blend of honky-tonk, shoegaze, and screamo. It’s their first album to feature bassist Ethan Baechtold, whose addition deepens the band’s sonic palette.

The album opens with “Reality TV Argument Bleeds,” a slow-building track that erupts into cathartic chaos, setting the tone for a record that veers between the painfully pretty and the violently expressive. Karly Hartzman’s lyrics read like diary entries—confessional, fragmented, and emotionally charged—while the band shifts effortlessly between twangy country riffs and distorted guitar assaults.

Singles like “Elderberry Wine,” “Pick Up That Knife,” and “Bitter Everyday” showcase Wednesday’s ability to balance melodic hooks with abrasive textures. “The Way Love Goes” offers a moment of haunting beauty, only to be followed by the screamo-laced “Wasp,” underscoring the album’s emotional volatility.

Critics have praised Bleeds for its chaotic elegance and its refusal to settle into a single genre. It’s a patchwork of sound and sentiment, capturing the disorientation of modern life through southern gothic imagery and sonic extremes.
