$72.00 Inc. GST

Somethin’ Else is a jazz album by alto saxophonist Julian “Cannonball” Adderley, released in 1958 on Blue Note Records. It is considered one of the greatest jazz albums of all time, and is widely praised for its melodic inventiveness, rhythmic drive, and overall sense of excitement.

The album features Adderley alongside a stellar quintet: trumpeter Miles Davis, pianist Hank Jones, bassist Sam Jones, and drummer Art Blakey. Davis is only listed as a sideman on the album, but his presence is undeniable; he contributes several of the album’s most memorable solos, including the title track and “One for Daddy-O.”

The album’s five tracks are all gems:

  • Autumn Leaves: A beautiful and lyrical rendition of the jazz standard.
  • Love for Sale: A sultry and seductive take on the Cole Porter classic.
  • Somethin’ Else: A hard-driving blues original that showcases the band’s virtuosic playing.
  • One for Daddy-O: A swinging blues tribute to the radio DJ Holmes “Daddy-O” Daylie.
  • Dancing in the Dark: A mid-tempo blues that features Adderley’s soulful alto saxophone playing.

Somethin’ Else is a must-have album for any jazz fan. It is a timeless classic that showcases the best of what the genre has to offer.
