Somethin’ Else is a jazz album by alto saxophonist Julian “Cannonball” Adderley, released in 1958 on Blue Note Records. It is considered one of the greatest jazz albums of all time, and is widely praised for its melodic inventiveness, rhythmic drive, and overall sense of excitement.
The album features Adderley alongside a stellar quintet: trumpeter Miles Davis, pianist Hank Jones, bassist Sam Jones, and drummer Art Blakey. Davis is only listed as a sideman on the album, but his presence is undeniable; he contributes several of the album’s most memorable solos, including the title track and “One for Daddy-O.”
