Genesis Owusu – Struggler

Struggler is the second studio album by Australian musician Genesis Owusu, released on 18 August 2023 through Ourness. The album is inspired by absurdist literature, especially Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, and follows the story of a cockroach trying to survive in a chaotic world. The album blends elements of post-punk, hip-hop, R&B, funk, new wave, and psychedelic rock, showcasing Owusu’s eclectic and experimental style. The album won Album of the Year, Best Independent Release, and Best Hip Hop/Rap Release at the 2023 ARIA Music Awards, and was nominated for the 2023 Australian Music Prize. The album features the singles “Leaving the Light”, “Tied Up!”, and “Survivor”.
