Quadeca – Vanisher, Horizon Scraper (White Vinyl)

Quadeca’s Vanisher, Horizon Scraper (2025) is a sprawling, cinematic voyage—equal parts sonic odyssey and existential meditation. Released via his own label X8 Music, it’s his fourth studio album and most ambitious to date, clocking in at over an hour and accompanied by a feature-length film in which Quadeca (Benjamin Lasky) plays a solitary sailor adrift in metaphysical waters.

The album opens with “No Questions Asked,” looping a sample from Chico Buarque’s Construção (1971) and layering it with acoustic textures and crashing waves. From there, it sails through flamenco-inflected trap (“Waging War”), baroque pop ballads (“Monday”), and surreal rap compositions (“Godstained,” “At a Time Like This”) that blend woodwinds, horns, and swirling arpeggios.

Lyrically, the album wrestles with identity, mortality, and transformation. Lines like “might have to ruin my life to make it mine” encapsulate its central tension: the cost of self-discovery. Guest appearances from Danny Brown, Maruja, and Oleka add texture, while Quadeca’s own vocals often recede into the mix, letting the instrumentation carry the emotional weight.

Critics praised the production’s ambition but noted that its conceptual narrative—centered on a sailor’s journey—sometimes drowns beneath layers of reverb and sonic excess. Still, Vanisher, Horizon Scraper stands as a testament to Quadeca’s evolution from YouTube rapper to avant-garde auteur, chasing horizons that remain just out of reach.
