Quiet Sun – Mainstream VG+/VG+
$82.00 Inc. GST
Quiet Sun’s Mainstream is one of the hidden treasures of 1970s progressive rock, blending the adventurous spirit of the Canterbury scene with the energy and complexity of jazz fusion. The band’s only album, it brings together intricate musicianship, unconventional compositions, and a playful sense of experimentation that keeps the music constantly engaging. Phil Manzanera’s distinctive guitar work weaves through shifting rhythms, atmospheric keyboards, and inventive arrangements that often move in surprising directions without losing their sense of purpose.
What makes Mainstream so rewarding is its balance of technical skill and imagination. The compositions are complex yet vibrant, filled with quirky melodies, unexpected twists, and a strong ensemble chemistry that allows every musician to contribute meaningfully. Rather than sounding cold or overly intellectual, the album brims with personality and creative freedom. Rich in texture, unpredictable in structure, and endlessly fascinating, Mainstream stands as a cult classic of progressive rock and a remarkable example of musicians pushing beyond conventional boundaries while remaining highly enjoyable to listen to.
