Testament – Practice What You Preach (Orange and Bone Swirl Vinyl)

Testament – Practice What You Preach is the band’s third studio album, released on August 8, 1989. It marked a shift in Testament’s lyrical themes, moving away from occult influences toward political and social commentary.

Musically, the album retains the band’s thrash metal roots but incorporates elements of traditional heavy metal, jazz fusion, and progressive metal. Tracks like Greenhouse Effect tackle environmental issues, while Sins of Omission addresses suicide prevention. The title track became a staple in Testament’s live performances, though many other songs from the album were rarely played live after the early 1990s.

The album was a breakthrough for Testament, achieving near-gold status and becoming their first record to enter the Billboard 200. In 2025, the band will celebrate its 35th anniversary by performing the album in its entirety for the first time on their U.S. tour.
