Billy Woods / Kenny Segal – Hiding Places

Hiding Places feels like a descent conducted in plain sight, Billy Woods moving through cramped rooms, dead ends, and half‑lit memories with a voice that sounds both analytical and frayed. Kenny Segal’s production gives the album its architecture: dusty loops, brittle drums, and pockets of negative space that feel like they’re swallowing the light, creating an atmosphere that’s tense without ever becoming theatrical. Woods’ writing is dense but unforced, a collage of observation, gallows humour, and emotional shrapnel delivered in a cadence that treats digression as structure. The record’s power comes from its claustrophobia — every track feels boxed‑in, corners closing, yet the detail is so sharp that the confinement becomes immersive rather than oppressive. It’s a rare rap album where mood and language are inseparable, a document of internal weather rendered with precision, abrasion, and a strange, lingering beauty.
