Idris Muhammad – Power of Soul (Ltd. Edition – White Vinyl)

Idris Muhammad’s Power of Soul is a superb blend of jazz, funk, and soul, driven by infectious grooves and the effortless feel of one of the era’s finest drummers. Surrounded by an exceptional cast of musicians, including Bob James, Grover Washington Jr., and Randy Brecker, Muhammad creates a sound that is both sophisticated and immediately accessible. The album thrives on deep rhythms, rich electric keyboards, and fluid horn arrangements, balancing improvisational freedom with a strong sense of melody and momentum. Rather than showcasing technical virtuosity for its own sake, the music is focused on feel, atmosphere, and collective chemistry, drawing listeners into its warm, rhythmic flow. The lengthy performances give the musicians room to stretch out while never losing sight of the groove at the heart of the record. Smooth yet energetic, relaxed yet consistently engaging, Power of Soul remains a standout jazz-funk recording and one of the defining achievements of Idris Muhammad’s career.
