Straight out of the Jungle is the debut album from the influential hip hop trio, Jungle Brothers, composed of Mike Gee, Afrika Baby Bam, and DJ Sammy B. The album was released on November 8, 1988 by Warlock Records, an independent label. The album marked the beginning of the Native Tongues collective, which later featured popular artists such as De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and Black Sheep. The album fused jazz, hip hop, and house music, creating a unique and innovative sound that influenced many genres and artists. The album also featured guest appearances from Q-Tip and Todd Terry. The album’s most famous single, “I’ll House You”, was added to the album in late-1988 reissues and is considered the first non-Chicago hip-house record to be a big club hit. The album received critical acclaim and was selected as one of The Source’s “100 Best Albums” in 1998.
