Like a Virgin is the second studio album by American singer Madonna, released on November 12, 1984, by Sire Records. Produced by Nile Rodgers, the album marked a departure from Madonna’s debut album, Madonna (1983), with a more polished and dance-oriented sound. Like a Virgin was a critical and commercial success, spawning four top-five singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including the title track, “Material Girl”, “Angel”, and “Dress You Up”. It became Madonna’s first album to reach number one on the Billboard 200 chart, and was certified six-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
