Sin After Sin is the third studio album by the British heavy metal band Judas Priest, released on 8 April 1977 by Columbia Records. It was the band’s first album for the major label and their only album to feature drummer Simon Phillips, a session musician who replaced Alan Moore 1. The album title is a reference to a lyric in the song “Genocide” from their previous album Sad Wings of Destiny.
The album showcases the band’s evolving sound, with more aggressive and faster songs, as well as more complex guitar work and harmonies. The album also includes a cover of the Joan Baez song “Diamonds and Rust”, which became the band’s first radio hit. The album features some of the band’s most influential and classic songs, such as “Sinner”, “Starbreaker”, “Call for the Priest”, and “Dissident Aggressor”, which was later covered by Slayer.
Sin After Sin was a commercial success, reaching number 23 on the UK Albums Chart 1. However, it failed to chart in the US, where the band was still largely unknown.x
