AC/DC – High Voltage

AC/DC’s High Voltage is the sound of a band discovering the formula that would make them one of the most successful rock acts in history. Packed with blues-driven riffs, relentless rhythms, and the irreverent charm of Bon Scott, the album captures AC/DC in their rawest and most energetic form. There is a youthful hunger running through the record, with every song driven by a sense of momentum and confidence that feels completely authentic.

The Young brothers’ guitar work provides the foundation, blending simple but unforgettable riffs with a powerful sense of groove, while Scott’s charismatic vocals add humour, attitude, and personality to every track. Though rougher around the edges than their later classics, the album possesses an immediacy that remains one of its greatest strengths. The songs are lean, direct, and free of unnecessary embellishment, focusing entirely on memorable hooks and pure rock and roll energy. Exciting, unapologetic, and full of swagger, High Voltage laid the groundwork for everything AC/DC would accomplish in the years that followed and remains an essential document of the band’s early years.
